weekend moments

b's birthday is today (happy birthday, b!). in his honor, we (finally) ventured to the zoo this weekend to celebrate.

the oakland zoo is a local treasure. i used to go there as a small child, and it was somehow more magical this weekend than it was then. we made sure to study up on the best route so we could make sure to see each and every habitat.

i was also informed we couldn't leave the park without a pressed penny. as luck would have it, we got a zebra - who, truth be told, are more squat in real life than i remembered.

when b and i were first dating, we went to the san diego zoo for the day (i was living in southern california at the time). right before i discovered his debilitating fear of heights while on the skyfari ride (something to do with being in a bucket on a wire), i managed to get him to sit on an iron gorilla for a picture. it's framed in our living room, and now has an accompanying version.

we had a wonderful time. 

full disclosure, the day also included donuts for breakfast and a Val's Burger, fries and a cookies n' cream milkshake for dinner. i'm a fierce observer of what i like to call 'the birthday grace'. wouldn't you know it, my camera died before we got there. thus, no proof of wrongdoing. take that!
