joe jost is a long beach institution. it's been around since 1924 - making it one of the oldest bars west of the mississippi. it's still owned and operated by the original joe jost's grandson, who carries on the tradition of cold beer, fresh roasted peanuts and pickled eggs.
i'm always the first one to whine (ha-ha) that i don't like beer, but seriously, this was really good. maybe it was the gigantic goblet they served it out of? also of note: the root beer they have
on tap.
you guys, everyone has one of these t-shirts. it's pretty amazing to go into a bar and see everyone (except us!) wearing the same dang shirt!
like i said, what the what with the huge glasses! they weighed like, a thousand pounds each.
they roast the peanuts in house - perfect.
also made in house: pickled eggs. now, i was as skeptical as the next person about these things, but let me tell you, they are pretty uniquely delicious. with the accompanying pickled jalapenos, it was like a delicious stick of dynamite.
how much do people love joe jost's? enough to let their kids have birthday parties there. seriously.
and this is what happens when we're left to our own devices.
it's on anaheim in the LBC if you want to check it out. i know it may not look like much from the outside, but you'll be very glad you went.
